In the end it was pretty close - some of the numbers were out by about 10^-3 but I think was because my version of Quaternion.Euler was slightly different to Unity's. I had to insert some logging into the game itself, then feed those time steps back into my simulation and check that everything behaved the same as in the game. This also made it difficult to test if my version of the simulation was the same as the game. This means that your own missiles will behave slightly differently each time you run your solution (depending on your frame rate), and if you run in fast forward you can get very different results - for example, the last two ships will spawn about two whole cycles later. The rest of the simulation is non-random, but it uses a variable time step. The fighter movement and enemy missiles are randomized, so it's hard to make an automated solution that will always get 0 damage. I also discovered a few interesting things about this level. After run a few hundred thousand simulations, 646 cycles was the best it could find! Then I used a Monte Carlo method to find feasible solutions. To speed it up I ported it from C# to C++ and removed all the unnecessary parts like the fighter ships and enemy missiles. Step 4: Restart the computer and get ready to play your game again.
